The “LONG” Tyne Tour Weekend

For the first time in living memory the Tyne Tour coincided with a wet weekend so Double2D and friends decided to sack work off on Friday and go boating!

First stop was the River Allen, paddled with Ollie (in a kayak), Tambourine Jack and Dan Green, plenty of water as expected, no dramas, a nice little start to the day!

After the Allen, we met up with MattD and Jimbo and set off to do Devils Water. This was nearly everybodys first run on this river and at these high levels, it certainly didnt disappoint. MattD managing to run most of the rock slide rapid upside down after a graceful pirouette in the big top hole, his face managed to avoid damage but his knuckles didnt ;-) D also sustained injury in the form of a black eye after an unfortunate incident with Dan Greens paddle!

After boating, in true Tyne Tour tradition it was off to Wetherspoons in Hexam for a wild fill of ale! Some ended up in the local night club (Dan, Ollie, Em, MattD, & Molly), others had more sense (D & Jess)!

Saturday morning arrived, far too soon for most, and after a leisurely start we made it on to the Tyne. Highlights of the trip included, Em not actually making it out of the car (bad hangover), Richard putting a big dent in the front of his brand new Team Pyranha 4Twenty :-( and the waves in Warden’s gorge, I don’t think they were big but after miles and miles of flat paddling, they were certainly welcome!

Saturday night at the Tyne Tour is Ceilidh Night, so after a quick curry in town we went dancing and I mean really dancing ;-)

Sunday – we all went our separate ways, D having to run the rapidly rising Tyne with the university again, Ollie, Jack, JamesF, Richard with MattD and Molly on bank support went and ran the Swale (see TWP), and Em and Dan acquired Mark and Ted and went and did Troutbeck (twice) in the Lakes.

Had quite a bit of interest in our DragoRossi demo fleet, most people still managing to have missed all the hype and not know what they are. Those that did paddle them over the weekend gave positive reviews, hopefully we are on our way to raising the profile of DragoRossi and High N Mighty in the UK!

Not any pictures as yet (technology and water dont mix), were hoping to get some images off a waterproof disposable camera soon, keep checking the gallery!

Hopefully the rain will continue and we’ll be able to tick off some more rivers next weekend, if not, the north east surf is meant to be going off this weekend!

Stay tuned……..
